Amiata

A mixed and complex land lying between the Val d’Orcia and the southern Maremma,Amiata is a center of life and cultures. Around the mountain that gives its name to this territory, the character of this area was forged, a character strongly linked to natural forces and the presence of this ancient now extinct volcano, which, with its eruptions, in the past also gave rise to the tuff, material linked to Etruscan civilization.

Amiata’s is a fertile land which for centuries nurtured those who cultivated it with passion and care, giving back with generous gifts: mushrooms, chestnuts or olives from Seggiano. The cultures of Siena and the Maremma met along the ridges of this mountain, chasing each other in the beech and chestnut forests of the six nature reserves present in what the writer Ernesto Balducci, born in Santa Fiora, called an island in the mainland.
