Valdichiana United Hospitals

The Valdichiana United Hospitals are located on Provincial Road 5 in Nottola, a hamlet 5 kilometers from Montepulciano. They make up a single-block hospital operated by the Health Service of Tuscany (Azienda USL Toscana sud est), created by the closure of six smaller hospitals in the municipalities of Chiusi, Torrita di Siena, Sinalunga, Chianciano Terme, Sarteano and Montepulciano and covering 861 square kilometers. The hospital is located within an area in the open countryside, among vineyards, for about 13 hectares and occupies an area of 65,000 square meters. The hospital went into operation from 2000-2001, opened on January 14, 2001, and took five years to build and invested about 120 billion lira. All the staff serving in the old hospitals have converged in the monoblock, where there are about 500 employees, including doctors, nurses, technicians, administrative staff and other health workers. There are 255 beds and the daily attendance is about 1,000 people. The hospital has the title of Italy’s safest and most welcoming hospital, awarded by the Patients’ Rights Tribunal, and the title of Children’s Friendly Hospital, an international recognition awarded by UNICEF-WHO.
